15 Weeks

Well we had a great Christmas holiday, and baby Beckett got all sorts of gifts! We received books, music, outfits, blanket, and odds and ends for the baby. Thanks to all for the wonderful gifts! It was definitely interesting to hear everyone's reactions to my growing belly. Some people didn't even think I looked pregnant, while others thought I was huge! (That was mostly my family thinking I was big, I guess compared to where I was before.) Some people want/think I am definitely having a boy while others are sold that it is a girl.
As for us- we have no inkling or idea what the baby could be! I can definitely tell that my belly is growing, and see the difference in my waist line. I am still on the medicine. I forgot to take it over the excitement of the holidays, and had a wonderful vomitting morning! So I am totally still taking and thriving on the medicine.
This week with the baby- Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds.

14 Weeks

Welcome to the second trimester! This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb. Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces.
We went to the doctor yesterday and we got to hear the heartbeat. Everything looks great and doing really well! It was so nice to go in and be reassured that the baby is doing well. We go back to the doctor Jan. 16th for another checkup and then two weeks after that we will find out what the baby is!

13 Weeks!!

Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.
This is the last week of the first trimester which is exciting. I thought I may be ready to go off the vomitting medicine (which is what I call it), so last Friday I went two days without, and realized I was not ready for that when I had vomitted 6 times in two hours. All I can say is- thank heaven for this medicine! I will try every so often to go off, but as of now the vomitting is still there.
My body is changing. Some people notice it more than others. My waist is getting thicker, and besides my upper region- that is the only place I have put on weight.
We go to the doctor next week for a check-up, and listen to the heartbeat, and I can't wait! Then our January appointment we should be able to find out what this baby is!!

12 Weeks!

The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.
As for me- I am growing- with the bump. I still get sick sometimes in the morning- the days I get sick I take the medicine and the others I don't. But there are days I don't get sick at all! My appetite still hasn't increased much, so I am just eating when I can.

We go to the doctor in a week and a half, and I can't wait to see how things are going.
